MAGICAL MESSI SCORES TWICE; 3 SHY OF ALL TIME RECORD

Barcelona striker Lionel Messi of Argentina scored twice against Levante to give his side a 4-0 win and extend the lead on points table in La Liga. With these two goals, the striker is just 3 goals shy of matching all time goals record in a calendar year set by German footballer Gerd Mueller who also played for Bayern Munich. He scored 85 goals in 1972.
The win has given Barcelona 11 points lead over their arch rivals Real Madrid which lost its match against Real Betis a day before. Out of the 13 matches played so far, Barcelona has drawn one match and has won 12. This equals the best season start by a team in la Liga previously set by Real Madrid in 1991-1992 season.
It was Andres Iniesta who was the key player in all the goals. He scored one goal and assisted in three goals. Lionel Messi scored in 47th and 52nd minutes from brilliant passes from Iniesta to take his tally of goals to 82 in 2012. In the 63rd minute, he helped Cesc Fabergas to score another goal. Iniesta made some penetrations in the opponents half early on in the first half as well, however solid defending by Levante prevented from scoring the goal and the match was an even affair till the half time.
Levante got a chance to score a goal when they got a penalty just three minutes before the full time. However, Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes saved the penalty kick by Jose Barkero brilliantly.

Last-Second Basket Gives Pacers a Win

It was a nail biting match between Los Angeles Lakers and Indiana Pacers in which the winner was decided in the very last second. The score line tells it all, Pacers winning by 79 to 77. It was just a basket difference between the two teams. Indiana guard George Hill was the player of the day whose basket seized the win for Pacers.
For most of the time in the match, Lakers were trailing and tried to match the score line. However, it seemed as if they would come from behind to win the match when Kobe Bryant shot a three pointer to level the score at 77-77 with just 24 second remaining in the full time. However, the next attack by Pacers saw guard George Hill do lay up with the ball dropping through the basket in the last second and that proved to be a match winning basket. Pacers head coach Frank Vogel was very ecstatic and said that he had faith that Hill’s shot would prove to be a match winner. In total, Hill scored 19 points for Pacers.
LA Lakers would have won the match but an uncharacteristic 20 free shots miss proved too costly for them. Kobe Bryant was the key player for Lakers who scored 40 points, although he missed over 10 free shots. Overall it was a high quality match. Both the teams are now 7-8 in this season.

Transform iPhone into a 14-megapixel snapper

(Cnet) The magnificently named i.am+ foto. sosho camera is more full stops than f-stops, and clips snugly around an iPhone. It’ll feature four different models that offer different lens types, the Telegraph reports.
Transform iPhone into a 14-megapixel snapper
The gadget transforms your iPhone into a 14-megapixel snapper, so it’ll be interesting to see if the new sensor and lens do actually beef up image quality. Brilliantly, Will.i.am says the gadgets were developed at “the cost of two DJ gigs”, possibly overestimating the average punter’s grasp of live music financials.
Lenses on offer include standard, fish-eye, wide and zoom, and options will be available for the iPhone 4 and 4S, as well as the more recent iPhone 5.
Owners of the most recent Apple smart phone will have to hold fire howeverwhile the iPhone 4/4S-compatible foto.sosho is out on 6 December, the iPhone 5 model won’t ship until next year. It will have a new sensor and flash though apparently, so y’know, swi.ngs and ro.unda.bouts.
‘Contemporary’ and ‘vintage’ models are available, with the contemporary option selling for £199 and the gold-trim vintage offering priced at — wait for it — £299. That pricier model also has a slide-out keyboard, which will have to dispense chocolate and massages in order to justify the monster markup.
An accompanying app will offer Instagram-esque filters and social sharing capabilities, so all your Facebook friends can see you spent at least £200 to take old-timey pictures of your lunch.
The brash gadgets will be available exclusively from Selfridges. Are you tempted? Tell me in the comments or on our exquisitely punctuated Facebook wall.

Russian Chamber for Patent says Apple’s iPad design is not unique

Once again Apple’s appeal has been rejected by Russian Chamber for Patent to register a iPad’s design, Cnews has reported. Apple re-filed an appeal with the chamber after the Russian Patent Office rejected its request in April 2012.
Apple has been arguing that the design it’s trying to patent is specific to iPad tablets and distinct from other. But Russian chamber has said that Apple cannot patent the design as most of the modern communication devices by different vendors looks same in design which are flat and thin. The difference in dimensions, display size and buttons layout cannot be the criteria.

HP accused software company Autonomy of fraud

Former Autonomy CEO Mike Lynch has written a letter to HP board, declaring that he has been unfairly treated over the accounting issues raised by HP for its $11.1 billion acquisition of corporate search software company Autonomy.

HP’s announced $8.8 billion write down and alleged that it was deceived on accounting issues of Autonomy by the company’s management team and informed SEC and the U.K.’s Serious Fraud Office about the fraud.

The letter Lynch released today is as follows

Open Letter from Dr Mike Lynch to the Board of Directors of Hewlett-Packard
27 November 2012

To: The Board of Directors of Hewlett-Packard Company
On 20 November Hewlett-Packard (HP) issued a statement accusing unspecified members of Autonomy’s former management team of serious financial impropriety. It was shocking that HP put non-specific but highly damaging allegations into the public domain without prior notification or contact with me, as former CEO of Autonomy.
I utterly reject all allegations of impropriety.
Autonomy’s finances, during its years as a public company and including the time period in question, were handled in accordance with applicable regulations and accounting practices. Autonomy’s accounts were overseen by independent auditors Deloitte LLC, who have confirmed the application of all appropriate procedures including those dictated by the International Financial Reporting Standards used in the UK.
Having no details beyond the limited public information provided last week, and still with no further contact from you, I am writing today to ask you, the board of HP, for immediate and specific explanations for the allegations HP is making. HP should provide me with the interim report and any other documents which you say you have provided to the SEC and the SFO so that I can answer whatever is alleged, instead of the selective disclosure of non-material information via background discussions with the media.
I believe it is in the interest of all stakeholders, and the public record, for HP to respond to a number of questions:
Many observers are stunned by HP’s claim that these allegations account for a $5 billion write down and fail to understand how HP reaches that number. Please publish the calculations used to determine the $5 billion impairment charge. Please provide a breakdown of the relative contribution for revenue, cash flow, profit and write down in relation to:
The alleged “mischaracterization” of hardware that HP did not realize Autonomy sold, as I understand this would have no effect on annual top or bottom lines and a minor effect on gross margin within normal fluctuations and no impact on growth, assuming a steady state over the period;
The alleged “inappropriate acceleration of revenue recognition with value-added resellers” and the “[creation of] revenue where no end-user customer existed at the time of sale”, given their normal treatment under IFRS; and
The allegations of incorrect revenue recognition of long-term arrangements of hosted deals, again given the normal treatment under IFRS.
In order to justify a $5 billion accounting write down, a significant amount of revenue must be involved. Please explain how such issues could possibly have gone undetected during the extensive acquisition due diligence process and HP’s financial oversight of Autonomy for a year from acquisition until October 2012 (a period during which all of the Autonomy finance reported to HP’s CFO Cathie Lesjak).
Can HP really state that no part of the $5 billion write down was, or should be, attributed to HP’s operational and financial mismanagement of Autonomy since the acquisition?
How many people employed by Autonomy in September 2011 have left or resigned under the management of HP?
HP raised issues about the inclusion of hardware in Autonomy’s IDOL Product revenue, notwithstanding this being in accordance with proper IFRS accounting practice. Please confirm that Ms Whitman and other HP senior management were aware of Autonomy’s hardware sales before 2012. Did Autonomy, as part of HP, continue to sell third-party hardware of materially similar value after acquisition? Was this accounted for by HP and was this reported in the Autonomy segment of their accounts?
Were Ms Whitman and Ms Lesjak aware that Paul Curtis (HP’s Worldwide Director of Software Revenue Recognition), KPMG and Ernst & Young undertook in December 2011 detailed studies of Autonomy’s software revenue recognition with a view to optimizing for US GAAP?
Why did HP senior management apparently wait six months to inform its shareholders of the possibility of a material event related to Autonomy?
Hewlett Packard is an iconic technology company, which was historically admired and respected all over the world. Autonomy joined forces with HP with real hopes for the future and in the belief that together there was an opportunity to make HP great again. I have been truly saddened by the events of the past months, and am shocked and appalled by the events of the past week.
I believe it is in the best interests of all parties for this situation to be resolved as quickly as possible.
I am placing this letter in the public domain in the interests of complete transparency.
Yours faithfully,
Dr Mike Lynch

HP responded to Lynch’s letter as follows

HP has initiated an intense internal investigation into a series of accounting improprieties, disclosure failures and outright misrepresentations that occurred prior to HP’s acquisition of Autonomy. We believe we have uncovered extensive evidence of a willful effort on behalf of certain former Autonomy employees to inflate the underlying financial metrics of the company in order to mislead investors and potential buyers.
The matter is in the hands of the authorities, including the UK Serious Fraud Office, the US Securities and Exchange Commission’s Enforcement Division and the US Department of Justice, and we will defer to them as to how they wish to engage with Dr. Lynch. In addition, HP will take legal action against the parties involved at the appropriate time.
While Dr. Lynch is eager for a debate, we believe the legal process is the correct method in which to bring out the facts and take action on behalf of our shareholders. In that setting, we look forward to hearing Dr. Lynch and other former Autonomy employees answer questions under penalty of perjury.

Notifications from old Facebook Group

(thenextweb)-Facebook has confirmed that some users are experiencing issues with its Groups feature today, after many users complained that their accounts were automatically resubscribing to Groups they had previously removed themselves from over the course of many years.
Those that have been affected have seen notifications from Groups that they had been subscribed to, at times when they weren’t anywhere near a Facebook-connected device or computer. Some users experienced glitches that saw them added to over 250 Groups, which they then needed to manually unsubscribe from.
Some private Groups owners have also seen users added without permission, while others have reported banned users gaining access to discussions they were previously restricted from seeing.
In a statement, Facebook told BBC technology correspondent Rory Cellan-Jones: “Some users appear to have been re-added to groups that they have left in the past. We are investigating.”
Facebook users have taken to the company’s discussion forums to discuss the issue and share their frustration regarding the opening of their Groups to people that otherwise wouldn’t be allowed:
