India humiliated by English spinners

Chasing a target of 57 runs, England breezed to a ten-wicket victory on the fourth day of the Mumbai Test and levelled the 4 test match series to 1-1. The match was a contest between slow bowlers of both the teams in which the English spin attack outplayed their Indian counterparts. Monty Panesar and Graeme Swann took 19 wickets in the match. Panesar’s match return was 11 for 210, Swann 8 for 113.England achieved their target in 9.4 overs.
On the fourth day, India’s lead was 31 with three wickets remaining. Gautam Gambhir, who had batted throughout the previous evening, made his unbeaten 53 to 65 but he was last out when Swann had him lbw. However he made minimum efforts to keep strike and protect India’s tail  walked off shaking his head that umpire Tony Hill had missed an inside edge. The other two batsmen were out by Panesar and Swann. Other than Gambhir, no Indian batsman was able to put up a fight and score decent runs.

Du Plessis’s Heroic Saves SA, Results in Draw

SA would never have thought that a debutante player would be savior for them and would make century to turn their visible defeat into a moral victory in the shape of draw. Had JP Duminy not got hurt, du Plessis would not have been in this Test. It was a huge task for SA to chase a target of 414 and to bat for four and a half sessions. However, du Plessis heroic saved them as he scored unbeaten 110 runs from 376 balls.
SA were all praise for du Plessis who made this huge task possible by not only batting for so long but also wearing down Australian bowlers and exhausting them. However, he was supported early on by AB de Villiers. He played against his natural style to score 33 runs from 220 balls without hitting a boundary. He was happy with the defending style as that was the need of the hour. Jacques Kallis scored 46 runs from 110 balls despite his hamstring. Australia had a chance to win the match a lead the series 1-0, but the opportunity was missed due to some missed chances, may be called bad luck. The chances came in the over of Clarke against du Plessis was given out but batsman’s review took away those chances.
As far as Australian bowlers were concerned, they couldn’t have done more. Even in the final over after bowling 33 overs, Siddle’s pace didn’t drop as Australian victory was still possible at that time had they got out the tail enders. However, Siddle’s attack was well defended by Morkel which left South Africa on 8 for 248 when stumps were called. Siddle finished with 4 for 65 from 33 overes.
An important thing to note that was the fact that du Plessis did not get carried away by the situation. He had the goal of team survival rather than his own heroic. Even after scoring the century, he acknowledged the applause and then settled straight back down to continue his job.
It was for the first time since 1921 that two consecutive tests between Australia and South Africa resulted in draws. Now the winner of the series will be decided in Perth.

Out of Sorts Ponting, Quiney Wobble Again

Ricky Ponting has scored just 20 runs in three innings this series, leaving his Indian summer of 2011-12 to recede ever further into the distance. He might have only one more Test to prove his position in the Australian team to be selected for 2013 Ashes. Same is the case for Rob Quiney whose brief career appears to be over. Both the batsmen failed to score at the batting crease late on day three of the second Test in Adelaide. Ponting scored only 16 runs in second innings.
If Ponting and Quiney do not perform in the next text, the selectors may decide to look towards more youthful options for the three Tests against Sri Lanka and lter for the test series against India and the Ashes against England. The options available to them are Usman Khawaja and Phillip Hughes. Khawaja has scored an outstanding century for Queensland earlier this month, while Phillip Hughes chose Saturday to make his first Sheffield Shield century for South Australia, an unbeaten innings at the MCG against Victoria. Quiney who was the replacement for injured Shane Watson may soon be out as the later has been declared fit to play at the WACA ground.

Manchester United Roar Back to Win against QPR

Manchester United came from behind to win 3-1 and avoided what could have been a possile upset at the hands of Queens Park Rangers, although they were with one goal deficit. This is QPR worst start of the season.
Manchester United Roar Back to Win against QPR
It was QPR which took the lead in the second half as Jamie Mackie scored. They had a sense of purpose and performed their defensive duties with diligence. However the lead couldnt last long as Sir Alex Ferguson took immediate changes, hauling off Paul Scholes and Ashley Young in favour of Anderson and Hernandez. The change paid dividends and the red devils scored three goals within a span of nine minutes. Initially, Jonny Evans scored the equalizer from Welbeck’s header from corner kick by Rooney. Later Darren Fletcher found the perfect spot between the two QPR defenders to head the ball into the goal and open his account in Premier League in 1 year. Javier Hernandez scored the third goal of the evening to take Manchester United to the top of the points table.
Redknapp couldnt see the team lose and left the field four minutes before the match was over.

Cautious Display by South Africa pays Dividends

South African bowlers needed to adjust their line and length
After a demoralising first day with the ball, South African bowlers needed to adjust their line and length in order to come back strong, to prevent Australia from putting a huge total and have a chance in this test match. The bowlers already knew their mistake of bowling too short deliveries and didnt need to be briefed.
This was what South African bowlers did exactly. The second day with the ball was 180 oposite to the first day. South Africa took 5 quick wickets giving only 68 runs to dismiss Australia for 550. The morning session started with Morkel adjusting his short balls to much fuller length, thus getting reward in shape of Clarke’s wicket. But he selectively bowled short balls too which paid dividends against tail enders. Morkel took five wickets. But that was not job over for SA. They needed to perform well with the bat too. They responded with a brilliant 138-run opening partnership. Graeme Smith’s captain’s knock of unbeaten century have kept them in the match but still a lot is to be done.
The South Africans were very cautious with their batting. Their scoring-rate was under 3.50 runs per over whereas Australia scored with 5.12. This approach is likely to stay until they find steady ground as three more days are still available. But the third day is going to be very important for SA to remain alive in the test match.

Rooney in against QPR

Rooney in against QPR
Sir Alex Ferguson, the Man Utd manager tries to put the defeat against Galatasaray behind and to get back to winning form. The red devils will be playing against QPR on saturday which is not having any manager right now after firing Mark Hughes early on Friday morning. QPR is currently having only four points and is at the bottom of points table.
Both Wayne Rooney and Chris Smalling, who didnt play in the last game are likely to play. In fact, Rooney didnt play the past two games due to tonsillitis but did take part in training sessions the whole week. Smalling missed the game due to shoulder problem. However, Nani will not be available as he is unfit due to hamstring injury.
Six Alex told that the team is focused on win again after a disppointing loss last week. He also expressed his surprise on QPR’s decision to bring in 11 new players and still unable to make an impact in BPL, although to be at top of the league immediately was also something he didnt expect.
QPR would be temporarily managed by Mark Bowen and Eddie Niedzwiecki for the trip to Manchester.

Clarke Great Form Continues, Makes History with Bat
Australian captain Michael Clarke did what even sir Don Bradman was never able to do. He scored his fourth Test double-century this year. Australia scored 482 runs which is the most they have scored in one day of Test cricket since 1910. Graeme Smith could literally do nothing to stop the runs.

At the end of the day’s play, Clarke was unbeaten on 224. Its back to back double century for him. At the start of the day, David Warner scored 119 runs off just 112 balls while Michael Hussey scored his second consecutive century. He was out at 103 on the last ball of the day from a delivery by Dale Steyn. The most important aspect of the day was the rate at which Australians scored. They batted with a run-rate of 5.55. Australians were struggling initially, with 3 wickets down at 55. However, the South African attack was helpless against Clarke, Hussey and Warner.

After the first hour, nothing went right for South Africa. Jacques Kallis left the field with hamstring injury while Dale Steyn left the field with hamstring tightness, although he returned late in the day to remove Hussey.

South Africa created few opportunities in the day. On 64, Hussey was given out caught behind but he asked for a review and Hot Spot showed no touch on the bat and the decision was turned down. At 73, Clarke edged Kleinveldt but the ball flew between the two slips. Clarke-Hussey partnership was worth 272.

From SA perspective, only Kallis was impressive with the ball during his short spell as he removed Ed Cowan and Ricky Ponting.

Job over for Chelsea Coach Di Matteo, Upset for Manchester United

Chelsea coach has been sacked after its 3-0 defeat against Italian club Juventus on Tuesday in Group E match of UEFA champions league.
Afer the exit of Andre Villas-Boas as Chelsea coach last season, Di Matteo was named its caretaker manager when he signed 2 year contract in june. Di Matteo had helped Chelsea to Champions League and FA Cup victories in May.
Although starting the season well by winning 7 of their 8 matches, Chelsea have performed badly over recent weeks, winning only 1 of their last 8 matches in all types of competitions.
After thorough discussions between the club owner and board, it was concluded that change was imminet so as to move the club in the right direction.
The club faces a chellanging task to qualify for knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League and to hold its grip over the Premier League. The club is also defending its FA Cup title.
It was Fabio Quagliarella who put Juventus ahead when he diverted Andrea Pirlo’s strike into the net. On 61 minutes, Arturo Vidal made it 2-0 when his strike was deflected in by Ramires. Sebastian Giovinco made it 3-0 in injury time to complete the victory in injury time.
Chelsea now needs to win its final Group E game against Nordsjaelland and a favour from Shakhtar Donetsk by beating Juventus would help them qualify from the group in knockout stages of champions league.
In another match, Turkish club Galatasaray player Burak Yilmaz scored the winner to defeat Manchester United 1-0
Manchester United had already qualified for the knockout stages before the tie but victory for Galatasaray gave them hope of making it through to the knockout stages. Manchester United had a chance to score but the header by Powell hit the bar.
According to Sir Alex Ferguson, the Turkish side handled the atmosphere better than them. Overall, it was a very competitive match.

ROBERTO DI MATTEO HINTS AT ADOPTING DEFENSIVE STRATEGY AGAINST JUVENTUS, MANCHESTER UTD SET TO ROTATE SQUAD

Chelsea coach
Chelsea coach has hinted for a change of plan against Juventus and may play more defensive team in Turin, while Manchester United set to rotate in Turkey
With a victory against Juventus, Chelsea will have a place in the knockout stages of UEFA champions league. After a 2-1 defeat by West Bromwich Albion in the Barclays Premier League on Saturday, Roberto Di Matteo said that he may change the formation to bring more defensive solidity to a team who are looking to avoid becoming the first reigning champions to fail to qualify for the knockout stage.
“Maybe it is the time when we might have to change in terms of our selection and the way we play, looking at the set-up of the team and to be going a bit more defensive,” Di Matteo said. “We had a lot of joy with the way we have been playing and long-term that is the way we want to go but we need a couple of positive results to get our confidence high again.
Chelsea does not enjoy a good record in Italy as the club had only one victory in eight attempts – a 4-0 group victory over Lazio in 2003, when Frank Lampard scored the final goal. The other seven matches resulted in four losses and three draws. Chelsea were held 2-2 by Juventus in the reverse tie at Stamford Bridge having gone 2-0 up.
“They are two massive games coming up and we’ve got players with a lot of experience to earn wins in those games.” said Di Matteo. We’ve been in this position before but, for some reason, November for our club is a bad month and it seems to again be the case this year. We have to try and address that.”
The other match to be played in Group E is between Nordsjælland and Shakhtar Donetsk.
With Manchester United already qualified for last 16 stage of UEFA champions league, courtesy of their four successive wins in Group H, Sir Alex Ferguson has the freedom to rotate his squad and let players who featured in the shock Barclays Premier League defeat by Norwich City to rest for Saturday’s match with Queens Park Rangers at Old Trafford. One of the players to feature in Istanbul may be Darren Fletcher. The Manchester United manager has been lifted by the return to training of two players who missed the Carrow Road defeat. Wayne Rooney, who had tonsillitis and goalkeeper David de Gea, who had his wisdom teeth removed. Both players trained with United in preparation for the trip to Istanbul, although they may not fly out.”We have done the first part. The second one is when we get the really big European nights”
Michael Carrick, who scored the only goal against Galatasaray in the opening group fixture, is already looking to the knockout stages of the competition where United have reached three finals, a semi-final and a quarter-final on the past five occasions they have progressed beyond the group phase.
“That is the big test,” said Michael Carrick. “That is when the competition really comes alive. We have done the first part. The second one is when we get the really big European nights and we go away to the best places in Europe and win games.
